A close personal relationship with the godhead is built into human DNA. It makes sense that the creator would include a part of himself in his creation. The Old Testament book of Genesis states that humanity is made in the image and likeness of creator God. Think about this. It is the design of every human being to have the same basic shape as every other human being. For instance, have you ever heard of a child being born with his or her eye sockets in the back of their head? Of course not. In fact, children born outside of the basic design are said to have a deformity. Why? Because it is unnatural.

Secondly, every human has an outward body—flesh—an inner soul—intellect, emotions—and an inner spirit. There are three parts, just as the Godhead has three parts, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. There are those who debate, even deny, that there are three parts of humanity, but they can no more prove that they are correct than medical science can prove that they are wrong.

For the Christ-follower, it is true simply because the word of God declares it. That is a lesson for another day. Humanity is made after his or her creator.

I have alluded to a close personal relationship to CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). As CPR is essential to human life, so too a close personal relationship with the godhead is essential to eternal life. In a crisis moment, someone’s ability to perform CPR on a human can mean the difference between life and death. In like manner, someone able to show another human the importance of a close personal relationship with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, can mean the difference between eternal death, and eternal life.

While the former can extend natural life, the latter will extend eternal life. Once again, there are those who do not believe in eternal life. I have used this argument before, and it remains true to this day. There was a time in world history that a well-educated society believed the world to be flat. For them, the distant horizon—as far as they could see—was the end of the matter. This belief predated Christopher Columbus by centuries but was nonetheless a hard belief.

So, there is a creator—God—who placed himself within each of his creation—humanity, but for what purpose? Do you remember Walt Disney’s movie, Pinocchio? The town woodworker Geppetto wanted a son so deeply that he makes a puppet. Wishing on a falling star, he vocalizes his desire for a son, and Pinocchio comes alive.

The Old Testament book of Genesis tells us that after creating humanity, God spends time with him—and eventually them—by walking and talking in the garden he placed them in. It also states that God brought all of his created creatures before the man. Upon seeing them, the man gave each created creature a name—the name they are called today. This means that when you see a giraffe and call it by its name, you are using the name the man gave it.

Of course, creator God is much grander than woodworker Geppetto, but I trust you get the idea that God created you—through the design he set in place in the Genesis garden—so he could have a relationship with you.
