That’s right – if you make Insight your priority, and won’t take no for an answer,
Searching for it like a prospector panning for gold, like an adventurer on a treasure hunt,
Believe me, before you know it Fear-of-God will be yours; you’ll have come upon the Knowledge of God.
And here’s why: God gives out Wisdom free, is plainspoken in Knowledge and Understanding.
He’s a rich mine of Common Sense for those who live well, a personal bodyguard to the candid and sincere.
He keeps his eye on all who live honestly, and pays special attention to his loyally committed ones.
Proverbs 2:3-8 The Message
Can you feel the passion, commitment, and dedication in this portion of Solomon’s writings?
This isn’t someone on a casual stroll or wanting to kill some time. This is a person on a mission. It is the essence of a close personal relationship with the Godhead.
Making Insight your priority
I like the words used in this passage of Old Testament scripture.
Insight is the capacity to gain an accurate and deep intuitive (using or based on what one feels to be true even without conscious reasoning) understanding of a person or thing.
In this case, you are gaining an accurate and deep understanding of God’s person, nature, and character. You earn such knowledge based on what you feel more than what you learn.
Consider how powerful this becomes when you make it a priority. In other words, every available moment is spent in focused determination to learn about God. No, it means you keep looking; nothing distracts you from your priority.
My life was turned upside down when I began dating my wife. My desire to be with her altered everything I did. I did not have time for any unnecessary things. She was the focus of my life, and nothing could stop me from pursuing her.
My priority was learning everything I could about her; the best way to do that was to be with her.
This is a picture of making Insight your priority—towards God.
Searching for it like a prospector panning for gold, like an adventurer on a treasure hunt,
Fishing is how I relate to this illustration. If the fish were not biting, my dad would pull anchor and move to another spot. I would keep my line in the water as long as possible, holding out for a fish to take the bait. I was determined to haul in a nice-sized grouper.
I remember being at a ruby mine. I excitedly picked up stones, digging in the dirt for the jeweled treasure. I went from spot-to-spot digging and searching until the excitement wore off. By that time, my treasure-hunting days were over.
The point is not to be in a hurry to move along but to be patiently persistent until you find what you are looking for.
Believe me, before you know it Fear-of-God will be yours; you’ll have come upon the Knowledge of God.
I wrote in detail about this a few posts ago. Click here to read that story.
God gives out Wisdom free, is plainspoken in Knowledge and Understanding.
In the beginning, God created humanity. He placed them in a perfect place and enjoyed spending time with them.
He created the male first, then the female.
He did not create one to be better than the other but to complement each other and exhibit the nature of God.
Temptation entered the picture, luring God’s prized creation into sin. The resulting sin caused a separation between God and his creation.
The tragic tales of humanity that are unfolding today are a result of that failure to follow God.
In the beginning, God poured his Wisdom, knowledge, and understanding into the hearts and minds of his creation.
Sin stifled that connection limiting the knowledge humanity could handle.
Following the plan of redemption through God the Son, Jesus restored the ability to entertain the Wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of God.
The advancements in humanity are a result of this connection being restored.
A close personal relationship with the Godhead is about stepping into that connection by having a close personal relationship with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
He (God) is ready and willing for such a relationship to be restored. The difference (from the original relationship) is humanity chooses to have such a relationship.
In the beginning, humanity had such a relationship because that is how we were created. However, the sin factor changed, allowing us to reject how we were created.
The result of humanity’s choice to reject how we were created is evident in the crazy ideas humanity has embraced regarding everything that makes us human.
The point is, if you are willing to do life God’s way, God is ready to impart Wisdom, knowledge, and understanding into your life.
He’s a rich mine of Common Sense for those who live well, a personal bodyguard to the candid and sincere.
Have you ever met someone lacking in common sense? The world is full of such people.
Wikipedia defines common sense as:
“Common sense is sound, practical judgment concerning everyday matters, or a basic ability to perceive, understand, and judge in a manner that is shared by nearly all people.”
God gives you the ability to exercise common sense. That common sense serves as a bodyguard. When you think about it, it makes sense (pun intended).
Common sense tells you not to go alone into an unsafe part of town at 3:00 in the morning. You are assured of being safe by listening to it (your bodyguard).
He keeps his eye on all who live honestly, and pays special attention to his loyally committed ones.
A close personal relationship with the Godhead is a two-way street. You play a part—in this case, being loyally committed to walking with God, and God plays a role—he keeps his eye out for you paying special attention to your life.
I love my children, each with a special place in my heart. I may do something for one that I do not do for another. The reason is not that I love one more or less than the other. The reason is what one needs may not be what the other needs.
In like manner, God loves you and looks out for you.
A close personal relationship with the Godhead is needed now more than ever.
A close personal relationship with the Godhead is a journey. I invite you to follow along. I will pass it along as I learn so you, too, can learn. I hope that as you learn, you can pass it along so that I (and others) might learn.
