What is your perception of God? Do you see him as an all-powerful being with a muscular build sitting on a huge throne with pillows of smoke rising all around it?
Or do you see him as a stoic being with piercing, angry eyes looking for someone to hurl a thunderbolt at because of their sinful ways?
Perhaps your perception of God is a softer, gentler person full of wisdom and kind words.
God is Spirit
While talking with a woman (from a different tribe) at a well outside the town, Jesus told her that
God is Spirit; the word is defined as wind. This means that God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are like the wind. Only Jesus, God the Son, is wind and flesh.
Consider how important this is. Wind is capable of being in all places at the same time. God is capable of being in all places at the same time. Wind is capable of picking up multiple sounds and carrying them incredible distances. God is capable of hearing every voice as his Spirit covers the earth.
So, in this fashion, God is a spirit being, like the wind, capable of being anywhere at any time.
God is active
While reading the gospel of John from The Message Bible, I noticed another important fact about God.
“So Jesus explained himself at length. “I’m telling you this straight. The Son can’t independently do a thing, only what he sees the Father doing. What the Father does, the Son does. The Father loves the Son and includes him in everything he is doing. For in the same way that the Father raises the dead and creates life, so does the Son. The Son gives life to anyone he chooses. Neither he nor the Father shuts anyone out. The Father handed all authority to judge over to the Son so that the Son will be honored equally with the Father.
” John 5:19-23 The Message Bible
1— the Father is actively doing
2— the Son and the Father operate in tandem (the Son doing what he sees the Father doing)
3—the Father includes the Son in everything
4—the Father and Son give life to anyone they choose
5—the Father gave the Son the authority to judge
God is love
The love of God brought God the Son, Jesus, to earth to redeem humanity from death.
“It’s urgent that you listen carefully to this: Anyone here who believes what I am saying right now and aligns himself with the Father, who has in fact put me in charge, has at this very moment the real, lasting life and is no longer condemned to be an outsider. This person has taken a giant step from the world of the dead to the world of the living.” John 5:24 The Message Bible
This amazing love is so giving that it allows God’s creation to accept or reject his love. As a parent, I have some grasp on this concept. Our adult children have the right to make up their minds. Much to our dismay, sometimes they make the wrong decision, hurting us deeply while hurting them in the future.
Imagine how God, as the creator, must feel (impossible, I know) when his creation rejects his love. It grieves him now and them later. The difference is when that rejection leads to death, it is final—there are no makeovers.
The unseen realm of eternal things is actively working (both for the good and destruction) of humanity. The wind (Spirit) of God is moving throughout the earth, directing everyone willing to listen to the good news of the Son.
The final wrap-up is on the horizon, and a close personal relationship with the Godhead is increasingly essential.
It is time to know Jesus.
A close personal relationship with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit is an unexpected journey of discovery.
