I have read several articles this past week that talk about the decline of America. It seems the many events of 2020 have exposed a deep-seated hatred for the American way of life. So many things have happened so quickly, that it is impossible to process what they all mean. Law enforcement is bad, while riots and destruction of property are acceptable. People are attacked, and beaten, because of what they are wearing. Unemployment pays more than working a job. Parents are not allowed to listen in to their children’s classes for fear they will not agree with what is being taught. A recent poll of younger adults reveals their willingness to embrace a Socialist way of life, while political leaders are openly calling for a Socialist America.

I bring these—few of many—issues up not to express a political point of view, but rather to point out the need for a close personal relationship with the godhead. The Bible speaks of such things taking place at the end of time, as we understand it. The Bible also speaks about the role of the Christ-follower. In one place in the New Testament, it says that we are not to waver as we tightly hold onto the hope of God’s promise—to never leave or abandon the child of God—because he (God) can be trusted to fulfill it.

This hope is developed through a close personal relationship with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. As the Christ-follower spends time with the godhead, his or her life begins to reflect the presence of God, the peace of God, and the promise of God in their life.

Jesus tells us to, “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:16 New Living Translation. Jesus is saying, let your good deeds, the things you do for others, let them be shine. He does not apply a condition to when they should shine, or where they should shine, or even how they should shine; only that they shine.

Think about this. In the darkness, the smallest light shines bright. It is noticed by everyone near it. It may not be acknowledged by everyone, but, it is noticed. So, do good deeds, let your light shine, no matter how dark it is around you.
