I had an outpatient surgical procedure done this week, and it reminded me how frail and fragile the human body is.
I am in good physical shape. I exercise, eat right, and live a healthy lifestyle, and yet, 50 minutes on an operating table has knocked me for a loop.
It reminds me of the words of King David, the Old Testament Psalmist and king of Israel.
Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God – you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration – what a creation!
You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Psalms 139:13-15 The Message
The God who created you knows you inside and out.
I have no idea why he (creator God) chose to make humanity so vulnerable to the elements of the world he placed us in. Every other creature is suited to its environment.
However, only humanity is made in the image and likeness of creator God, and in the beginning, the man and woman were naked in the garden. (Don’t ask me to explain it!).
One thing I wrestle with is things in my life that do not fall in line with God’s word.
For example, it is clearly evident that Jesus healed—all that came to him, according to the Bible—and yet, I had a surgical procedure done to bring healing to my body.
I am thankful for the doctor and his team. I am thankful for the technology (it was a robotic procedure) that allowed the procedure to be outpatient. I am thankful for insurance that covered all but $200 of the cost.
But I do not qualify what happened as Jesus healing me.
I understand this “marvelously made” creation heard the voice of God and developed technology to allow the procedure to be routine.
But I do not qualify it as Jesus healing me.
What do you do when your life doesn’t align with what you see in the word of God?
- You can get angry at God
- You can attempt to defend God by explaining why it doesn’t happen
- You can ignore it and pretend that portion of the Bible isn’t there
- OR
You can choose to trust him.
There are several things (like healing) that I can build (in my mind) a case (as though I am a lawyer going to court) to contradict God’s word, and if I pursued them, they would only serve to drive me away from Him.
You may ask, why would you stay?
I will answer because many things in my life prove God’s word, and those things outweigh the things that, in my mind, contradict God’s word.
For a recent example, my wife and I discussed getting a Purple mattress. The one we wanted cost around $2,000.
A couple of weeks ago, I had a phone call offering me (for free) their new Purple mattress. They were upsizing their bedroom and thought about offering it to us.
Wow! That was a coincidence, or was it?
Of course, it wasn’t. It was God taking care of us.
This is the lesson for today.
Because of a close personal relationship with God (or the Godhead), I have learned to trust instead of doubt, to accept instead of question, and to proclaim instead of complain.
God will make a way. Your life is in his hands, and he will care for you.
King Solomon of Israel penned these words:
“He’s a rich mine of Common Sense for those who live well, a personal bodyguard to the candid and sincere.
He keeps his eye on all who live honestly and pays special attention to his loyally committed ones.”
Proverbs 2:7-8 The Message
Your life works out when you trust God. He takes care of you when you commit your life to him.
He guards your life when you have a close personal relationship with him.
A close personal relationship with the Godhead is needed now more than ever.
A close personal relationship with the Godhead is a journey. I invite you to follow along. I will pass it along as I learn so you, too, can learn. I hope that as you learn, you can pass it along so that I (and others) might learn.
